The Roman Goddess Pomona- the Goddess of Fruitful Abundance Original Watetcolor Painting

How we tend our gardens and our commitment to it, is just as important as its harvest. As with any dream or goal, we can't expect to plant the seeds and allow it to fend for itself. Each day it needs our love and care in order for it to grow into its fullest potential.  The Roman Goddess, Pomona, is symbolic of this very thing. She is known for the relationship that we carry with our gardens. Her focus was on the "tending", rather than the harvest. In a sense, that seems to make her a Goddess who lives in the moment, and operates on "one day at a time". She understands and respects the hard work that is involved with realizing a goal.   Pomona is the 12th Goddess in my "30 Goddesses in 30 Days" watercolor painting series. She was painted with Peerless Transparent Watercolors on Strathmore paper that measures 9 x 12. In the painting, her hair is an orchard, filled with the fruits of her labor.  The painting is embellished with liquid pe

The Survivor Goddess - She who Carries Phoenix Medicine

We ALL have a Story, filled with ups and downs, trials and tribulations, joys and accomplishments. I myself believe that it is possible to re-write our story, in essence I think that do-overs can happen. It doesn't erase the previous chapters, but allows us to grow toward loftier heights as well as deeper in the soul.  These beliefs are what led me to the creation of the "Survivor Goddess" - She who Carries Phoenix Medicine. She is the 11th Goddess in my watercolor painting series "30 Goddesses in 30 Days". I love that she emerged as number 11, such a meaningful number in numerology. [The Number 11 is a Master Number, symbolic of New Beginnings. It is one of a pure and intuitive heart. Often we can go through periods of time when the number 11 presents itself to us seemingly everywhere, signaling to me that our guardians are watching over us, sending us messages, and confirming our path.] Here, the Survivor Goddess, has just realized her journey by c

Flora, the Roman Goddess of Renewal and Spring - 30 Goddesses in 30 Days Series

The cold bleak winter lingers over the calendar like a slow molasses poured over breakfast. It tastes sweet at first, delightful even, but after time those monotonous grey landscapes nag at us for a change. We miss those vibrant colors and new daily blooms that make us feel like we are witnessing magic again and again. Whether the melancholy is literally for Earth's season, or for the season in our soul, we begin to ache for the arrival of Spring and the blooms of Renewal. As we forge through the beginning of February, I myself am longing for Spring and thoughts of the Roman Goddess, Flora, come to mind.  Flora is Number 10 in my "30 Goddesses in 30 Days" watercolor series. As I sit at my painting table in the studio, the faint light from the heavy overcast sky tries to peak through the windows and  the cold rain creates puddles in the yard. Flora arrives on the paper with her wavy brunette hair. By her expression I can feel she is ready to bloom  as well. Th

Aurora The Goddess of Dawn - Number 9 of 30 Goddesses in 30 Days

I am a woman who likes the "in between", the moments of Transition, or the grey areas. I have always been intrigued by the bridge between earth and sky, and the morning and evening twilight. These moments to me are the magic time, the times when anything is possible, when things are up for interpretation, and when we can change the course of things. And so,  I feel  this is when we are most connected with our own intuitive senses and need to trust in ourselves as we walk the path. These thoughts are what inspired my 9th Goddess painting in the Goddess series, Aurora  Goddess of the Dawn. Aurora represents the Dawn, the beginning of the Morning Twilight. For me, this is the bridge between day and night, when the Sun is thinking of making its appearance yet the moon and stars are still at the party. All of the elements of day and night are present. Hopeful wishes of what the day has to bring creep into the mind, while we are still wrapped in the cloak of the night'

The Goddess of Autumn - Number 8 in the 30 Goddesses in 30 Days Series

My natural instincts guided me to the creation of the Goddess who represents my favorite time of year, Autumn. This magical space in time is symbolic to me of Earthiness with a Splash of color - it is the time when the air has a little nip to it and we bring out our sweaters and scarves,  large harvests are gathered from the Earth, and the leaves begin to turn those brilliant colors reminiscent of paint on a palette. In Greek mythology the seasons are represented by a triad of deities called a Horae. The "withering" time of Autumn and Winter are watched over by "Carpo". Carpo was specifically in charge of the ripening of the harvest and Autumn, and was joined by "Thallo" and "Auxo" who represented Spring and Summer. The Horae was responsible for time and the seasons, so deeply connected to the rhythms of life of all beings.  My 8th painting is of Carpo. I wanted to bring a hint of her spirit with the earthy colors and the beginning
