My natural instincts guided me to the creation of the Goddess who represents my favorite time of year, Autumn. This magical space in time is symbolic to me of Earthiness with a Splash of color - it is the time when the air has a little nip to it and we bring out our sweaters and scarves, large harvests are gathered from the Earth, and the leaves begin to turn those brilliant colors reminiscent of paint on a palette.
In Greek mythology the seasons are represented by a triad of deities called a Horae. The "withering" time of Autumn and Winter are watched over by "Carpo". Carpo was specifically in charge of the ripening of the harvest and Autumn, and was joined by "Thallo" and "Auxo" who represented Spring and Summer.
The Horae was responsible for time and the seasons, so deeply connected to the rhythms of life of all beings.
My 8th painting is of Carpo. I wanted to bring a hint of her spirit with the earthy colors and the beginning of the turn of color to a brilliant orange.
"Carpo" is an original watercolor painting and is available in my Etsy shop here
