"Perceptions" of the Lady and the Birdcage, a Contemporary Folk Art Painting by Jeanne Fry |
Some feel that she has been captured by the Hawk and that she is looking for a way to escape. While others feel that the Hawk has rescued the woman and is taking her to safe keeping, for he knows what it means to be kept and confined.
Is the Comfort she is displaying Honest? or is it a ruse for her escape.
Is the Hawk her totem, rescuing her from a bad choice?
Only the Lady, the Hawk, and the Birdcage know for certain.
Closer View of the Lady in the Birdcage by Jeanne Fry |
The painting was created on wrapped canvas. Layers of acrylics bring a rich blended background of turquoise, sage green, linen, and shades of blues. The woman was painted in nude, sitting modestly inside the birdcage. Her long dark hair is tied back in a braid down her back. Her legs are lazily draped through the poles of the birdcage, relaxed and comfortable. Her left hand leans back behind her and holds onto the base of one of the poles, that happens to be the edging of the cage door. The loop on the top of the birdcage is held by the wing of a Red Tailed Hawk, who you can them see, is carrying her and her birdcage.
